We bought the Knights Inn in Fairview back in November. It came after a friend reached out about learning the hospitality business and we moved down to Arkansas a couple years earlier to try something different. The idea was to spend five years on that and then get our own place but things worked out sooner than expected.
Our family came from Laos after the war ended. A lot of Hmong families left because of what they had done with the United States. We got here in the eighties like so many others and got married in 1988. That was the start of trying to build the American Dream through work and family.
We spent time in Wisconsin raising five kids with both of us working full time. Then the housing problems in 2008 pushed us over to Oklahoma. It seems like we kept moving around looking for something better.
Now we are just trying to fix up the motel and make it welcoming. We want it to feel like our own place and maybe have Fairview be home for good. We worked hard for the American Dream and it feels like this could be where it happens.
